What to Do If Your Ride-Hailing Driver Deviates From the Route

SafeSide Team·August 9, 2026·2 min read

Route deviation is one of the categories you can report on SafeSide: deviating from the app's route without consent or explanation. A detour is not always a problem, but a driver who leaves the route without a word deserves your full attention.

First, read the situation

Traffic, road closures, and construction move drivers off the app route all the time. If the driver stays on main roads and explains the change, that is usually nothing. The warning signs are different: leaving the route without a word, ignoring the app's directions, moving toward less populated areas, or refusing to explain.

What to do in the moment

  • Keep your phone in your hand and the app open.
  • Send your live location to someone you trust.
  • Say something. Telling the driver they are going the wrong way is enough to test the response.
  • If you feel unsafe, ask to end the ride in a public, well-lit place and get out.
  • Note the plate and the car details before you leave.

After the ride, report it

File a report at /report/new with the plate, the route deviation category, and the severity. Screenshots of the route or the trip receipt help. Reports are anonymous and reviewed before publishing, and even a single report can make the next rider pause.

Common questions

Is a small detour worth reporting?

If it made you uncomfortable, yes. Report what actually happened and pick the severity honestly. Informational reports still build the record.

What if the driver refuses to stop?

Your safety comes first. Wait for the next safe public place, get out, and report the full sequence afterwards. For emergencies call 15 (police).

Where can I see a driver's history?

Search the plate at safeside.live/search. The process is explained in How to Report a Bad Ride-Hailing Driver in Pakistan.
